Marie's Donuts on Watt Ave, North Highlands, CA

I went to my high school reunion recently which is another whole story in itself but before I headed back south to Irvine, California I stopped by the old neighborhood and saw Marie's Donuts. I had to stop and take a look.

This place was a big deal for us when we were kids. A cream puff donut with a glass of milk was like Christmas day. I remember collecting soda cans as a kid to get food here. Now I stood outside of it with my campaign sign, running for public office. What a great country we live in when we can go from a kid on welfare, food stamps and homeless, to being a leader!

What stood out to me when I went inside was the big mixing machine. It is the same machine they had 30 years ago when I was a kid! I also learned that the nice lady (Anna Walz) working behind the counter went to high school with me! Wow!

It may be more of a symbolic gesture being that this business is 6 hours away from my district but I was touched when they gladly accepted my sign for display.

Thank you,
